February 17, 2017

This week we are still reading My Father's Dragon.

We are still studying manatees.  Manatees can hold their breath for 15-20 minutes but usually come up for air every 3-5  minutes.

We are working on place value of the teen numbers in math.

This week we finished Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.  We started a new book called My Father's Dragon.

Thursday was our 100 th day of school!

We started learning about manatees.  They are related to elephants.  They are endangered.  Their only predator is a human.  They get hit by boat propellers.  Manatees do not have front teeth.  They only have molars.  When one falls out, the molars move forward and then they grow a new one in the back.

February 3, 2017

This week we are finishing our study of the moon phases.  We made craters in the moon.  We finished recording in our moon journals.

We are still reading Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.  Some of us loved the chapter about the slow-eater-tiny-bite taker.  Others liked the radish cure to get kids to take a bath.  Some more students liked the one about the selfishness cure.  We just started one about kids who quarrel.

We are writing so much now- and quickly!  Some students like writing in their journals.

Many of us are recording in our Winter Passports.

One reading group finished Mummies in the Morning.  Jack and Annie saw a mummy!  The group got to write in hieroglyphs on papyrus they made.

Another reading group finished reading Owl and the Moon. Owl thinks about so many sad things he makes himself cry.  He collects the tears to make a kettle of tear-water tea and it is salty!
