This week we started studying maps.  We sang a song to learn the names of the continents..."We've got the whole globe in our hands...."

This week in Charlottes' Web Charlotte worked on saving Wilbur by weaving "Some Pig" in her web.  Also earlier the goose had babies but one did not hatch.  Templeton kept the  rotten egg and Avery fell on it and it smelled SO BAD!

The prizes for the Passports to Winter Fun were passed out today.

We started writing narratives.

This week we learned new Spanish words.  They are sports words.

We made bird houses.  They will be displayed at the Dowd's Inn.

We are in the middle of the read aloud Charlotte's Web.

We had our Student-led conferences.  Some students were nervous at first. The students read from reading group books, a favorite math page, a writing journal page, taught their parents how to do add strategies, reviewed how they were doing with their Hope & Dream, and shared which rule they did best.  Most enjoyed doing the conference.

This week we tried to keep ice from melting.  It was our second attempt.  We tried it again so we could improve on our first try.  The last piece of ice melted 27 hours and 19 minutes later.  The group wrapped the ice cube in felt, then newspaper.  They placed it in a cup surrounded by sand and put it outside under a bush. We will finish the unit on States of Matter today.

We finished Gooney Bird Greene.  Many students liked the part when Gooney Bird's cat was consumed by a cow.  Others liked her dangly diamond earrings.  Our new read aloud book is Charlotte's Web.

Three students already did their student-led conference.  The rest of the class will do them next week.
