March 24, 2017

This week we studied what a gas is. It can change shape.  It takes up space. Gas is all around us.  We also observed how long it took to let an ice cube melt.  It took 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Today we will try to make an ice cube melt faster than 1 1/2 hours.

We are still reading Gooney Bird Greene.

This week we adopted Gator and Howie, the manatees.

While reading Gooney Bird Greene, Gooney Bird climbs in the rug after her cat.  The rug fell out of the car.  She did not get her cat back, but she did get back to her parents.

We explored liquids this week.  Liquids can change shape to fit the container, but the volume (amount) stays the same.

In math we are making 10, then adding the leftovers (ones).

March 10, 2017

This week we started a new science unit, States of Matter.  We explored solids this week.

We have new math unit. We are learning about addition and subtraction to 20.

We started a new read aloud book called Gooney Bird Greene.  She likes to be right smack in the middle of everything.

Over the last 2 weeks we had guests readers come in to celebrate Dr. Seuss.  Last week we made hats, played with Ooblek, and planted "truffle" trees for Read Across America Week.  We also ate green eggs.

Our new STEM challenge this month is to make rainbows with a flashlight and a jar of water or a CD.

We earned enough money from extra chores to adopt Gator, the manatee.
