December 22

This week we made dog bones for the dogs at the Humane Society.

We had PE.  We played hospital and tag.

We tried gingerbread cookies and gingerbread cake.  Then we made graphs about whether we liked them or not.

Today we are making gingerbread houses.

We watched Scooby-Doo and the Monster in Mexico  with the second grade.

We had a concert on Monday.

It was a fun week!

December 16

This week we had PE.  We played tag.

We had Spanish. We sang for the school, Casca Bells.

We had math. We split a big cookie drawn on the board.  We played clock BINGO.  We measured this week too.

In library we read different versions of The Gingerbread Man (including The Stinky Cheese Man).

We finished writing about our Loveys and they are hanging in the hall.

We made gingerbread houses out of paper and stickers.  We watched videos of interviews with Jan Brett.

We had a fun week!

This week we had PE.  We played zombie tag.

We had Spanish.  We learned about sports. 

We have Art today.

We had math.  We measured with rulers.

We have Chorus today. 

We are learning about a new author.  The author is Jan Brett.

This week we had PE. We played with balloons.

We did math.  We added and subtracted.  We studied the dime.

We had music.  We played on little drums.

November 18

We did a dinosaur dig a  few weeks ago.... October 31st!

We had PE.  We scooped bean bags and dropped them down into the hula hoops.

We are learning about the Mayflower.  We learned that the Pilgrims didn't have much food.  They had to use chamber pots instead of bathrooms.

The school canceled Pajama Day because it was also picture retake day, so it will be next Tuesday instead.

We got out early this week for parent conferences, so we didn't have time for Library.  We could choose to go to recess or library.

We had a fun few weeks!

October 21

This week we did math.  In math we added nickels and pennies and traded pennies for nickels.

In PE we kicked balls around with partners.

We had science.  We saw that a T-Rex could look in the second story window.  We watched a dinosaur movie in Library too.

We had recess.  We had lunch too.

We had reading groups and read to teachers.  We read different books.

We had Spanish.  We made books about things in the classroom.

We are still working on our 10 Black Dots book.

We had a great week!

October 14

This week we had Open House.  That is a "show and tell" about school for our parents.  We showed stuff we made in the halls, our room, the stars of our Hopes & Dreams, and the doodles across from the gym.

We had lunch and recess.

This morning we had a bus evacuation.  That is to practice what to do if we had to get off the bus in an emergency.

We had Spanish and PE this week.  In PE we kicked soccer balls while we looked up.  On Wednesday we ran Blisters.

In math we worked on Math Boxes.  We worked on clocks telling time to the hour.

We had a great week!

October 7

This week we had math.  We counted pennies.  There were always 10 pennies.  We grabbed a handful, counted them, and decided how many were left in our other hand.

We watched the Magic School Bus for Science because Spanish was cancelled.  During the week, in science, we learned the continents shifted.  We learned that there were different time periods in history.  There was the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods.

We had Spanish this week.  We sang a song called CuCu.  We did the Yo Soy dance. 

We created our own version of If the Dinosaurs Came Back.   

In PE we did bean bags.  We balanced them on our heads.

We made clay pots last week in Art.

September 23

This week we got to choose our centers.  We could choose clothesline or SMARTboard.

We had PE.  We played with beanbags (balancing them on our heads) and we played the helping game.

In math we used pattern blocks, geoboards, and base 10 blocks.

We started a new unit in science, dinosaurs.  We used toy dinosaurs in clay to make an imprint.  Then we used plaster of paris to make a fossil.

We played memory and pesca in Spanish

It was a great week!

This week we had PE.  We played Smart  Shot.  We played with the hula hoops.

In Spanish we had an extra recess and watched Pocoyo.

We did squiggle art in guidance to practice creativity and individuality.

We drew pictures for someone else in Art.

We had math.  We counted backward and forward.

We had a fun week!

Sept 9

This week we did math.  We played Monster Squeeze.  We learned how to use white boards and write numbers.  We started Math Journals.  We played Bunny Hop. 

We had a rainy indoor recess day and got to play Legos.

We have been reading books in our Book Boxes.  We have to point to our words to make them match what we are saying.  We also read a big book called Mrs. Wishy-Washy.

We do morning work at our desks when we come in.

We made self-portraits in Art.

We had a fun week!

5/16-5/20

Over the past two weeks we made maps of the playground and our classroom.  We included keys and a compass rose.  We made symbols for equipment and furniture.


In writing we are working on our own stories.  Some people are writing animal reports.  We are working on adding details to make sentences more interesting.  We are thinking of adding why?  where?   when?  and who? details.

In math we are pretending to buy items from vending machines.  We are working on buying two items, adding that in our heads, figuring out the money needed, and possibly giving change.

In Chorus we are working hard to learn the words to our songs for the May Fair and end of the year concert.  Mrs. Ragonese has complimented us on our improvement.

Last Saturday we had school.  We made cardboard buildings.  They were fun to build.  We had a barbecue, and we liked it!  The grill set the fire alarm off and we had to go outside.  We learned alot of history of Lyme because we went on a tour of the town.  People dressed up to teach us about it.  If you write an essay about Lyme history, you may win $100!

We had a great two weeks.

This week we studied about fractions.  We practiced taking "chunks" out of the number grid and filling them in.

We started writing new stories.

Every afternoon we had early release.  Every student had a conference.  We showed our moms and dads around the classroom.

4/4-4/8

This week we finished our States of Matter unit by making ice cream.   We turned the liquid into solid with ice.  On Monday we turned ice into a liquid, then kept it boiling to turn it into a gas.

We started writing stories.

Mar 21-24

This week we started to experiment with ice.  First we tried to melt it fast. We learned that we had to add heat to make it melt faster.  Then we tried to keep it from melting.  While we were in the middle of the experiment, we learned that salt and water DO NOT keep ice from melting!

We are adopting a manatee named Whiskers. 

In math we had a school store.  We bought things and made change.

We had a great week!

3/14-3/18

This week we discovered what a liquid, gas, and a solid is.   A liquid is something that changes shape to fit the container.  A gas is something that changes shape to fit the container but we usually we can not see it.  A  solid is something that does not change shape to fit the container.

Today we observed ice, a solid,  turning into a liquid.

We worked on our Black Dot books and had a great week!

Mar7-Mar11

This week we started a new science unit.  We are studying "States of Matter".  We experimented with water for liquids.  They change shape.  We experimented with blocks of wood and foam to find that solids do not change shape.

We are working on putting details into our Black Dot books.

We are still raising money to adopt a manatee.

This week we worked on our Black Dots books.

We had a snow day on Monday (and last Friday too!)

We are studying manatees.  Many of us have done chores to raise money to adopt a manatee.  We are hoping to have enough money to adopt one next week.

In math we are studying shapes.  We made a shape museum in class.

1/31-2/4

This week we are looking for things to collect for 100 days of school.

This week we are working on fact families.  We also started measuring in centimeters.

We will begin a new writing unit to make our own 10 Black Dots book.

We had a snow day on Wednesday.  Wednesday was Groundhog's Day.  He did not see his shadow, so spring will come early!

We finished our unit on the Phases of the Moon. 

In Art we made rockets to fly to the moon.  Plus, we painted pictures of the moon with watercolors.

We are also studying the Blue Period in Art class.

January 17-21

This week we wrote letters to our moms and dads. We pretended that we were on the moon and wrote postcards home.

In science, we made craters in the moon's surface and drew what we saw.

Jan 3-7

This week we started studying the moon.  We learned that the moon is smaller than the earth.  We made the earth and moon with clay.  We can see it in the night and in the day.  It is made of rocks.

We wrote notes to our moms and dads.  Then we addressed the envelopes.

R got Seymour this weekend.

We started reading Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle aloud.

We had a great week!
