January 27, 2017

This week we had spirit day and we had to wear purple! We got pencils for prizes.

We are finishing up with the moon unit.  We discovered the moon phases is a pattern in nature.   The moon waxes and wanes every month.

We started a new math unit.  It is about first and last (Mrs. Wilcox says it is called ordinal numbers and position.)

We published our favorite opinion pieces.

This week we had a concert.  Mrs. Wilcox says it was spectacular!

We started Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle as a read aloud.

We are still sketching the moon.

This week we are studying the moon.  It is smaller than the earth (maybe the size of a tennis ball to the size of a globe for earth and the size of the school for the sun). Copernicus is a special crater on the moon.  There is an American flag on the moon.  It has wires in it to make it look like it is flying because it has no wind.  We finished reading Midnight on the Moon by Mary Pope Osborne.

If students didn't ski, they made dinosaur launchers.

This week we started the ski program.  About 17 out of 22 first graders are skiing.
** It was awesome!  (... but MD felt icy)
**It was good.  My groups went on the chair lift.
**We went down Herman's Highway and MD.
**Many of us saw our teacher at the lodge picking up her daughter.
